I work for a large company that issues Windows laptops or MacBooks to employees depending on the work requirements. Most developers I know there use Macs, and I’ve only heard of 1-2 cases where programmers needed to get a Windows machine because they were working on a particular project.
So this is def YMMV territory.
What do you get when you cross Family guy with BTTF?
1.21 giggetywatts!
Personally, I struggled with the new name for the lake. I couldn’t figure out how to pronounce it at first. Nothing in school prepared me for how to read “Bde”, and I definitely wouldn’t have expected it to rhyme with “g’day”.
I don’t particularly care for the new flag design, but I suspect I’ll get used to it. I’m not entirely clear on the motivation behind redesigning the flag in the first place, tbh.
If you want to talk about respect, let’s talk about Elon’s disrespect to everyone who used Twitter or talks about it now. I noted elsewhere in the discussion that the convention for websites is “name” .com or .org
Google (.com) Twitter (.com) Wikipedia (.org)
etc.
Breaking that mold to be “edgy” doesn’t make one clever, it just causes confusion and wastes people’s time.
In this case, it’s wasted a lot of time because of how high-profile it is.
Side note - I’m also in MN. WDYT about the lake in Minneapolis that they renamed a few years back? It seems like there might be some parallels, but I don’t think it’s a good example for a worldwide audience. I only bring it up because of your username.
The convention for websites is generally “name” dot com or “name” dot org. If you want to change the name, change the website name.
Until we start going to x.com instead, I’m going to talk about twitter(.com)
What if I told you both were bad?
So… Just quit your job, and problem solved.
are you claiming your job makes you happy? Why don’t you do it for free?
No, turn this around. Everyone needs a way to pay the bills. But there are lots of ways to pay them. Lots of different jobs.
Would you rather work at a job where you’re happy or where you’re miserable?
A lot of people find their jobs easier if they’re on friendly terms with their coworkers.
Please note, this is not the same as being close friends with your coworkers.
Alphabet spent $70 billion on stock repurchases last year. Their server costs aren’t a problem.
Eh, depends imo.
Civilization? PC all the way. Ratchet & Clank? God of War? I had a lot of fun playing them on consoles. IDK whether they would have worked as well on PC.
Knights of the Old Republic? I played on PC in spite of the awful UI port from console mode.
I was just going to upvote them.
This really annoys me, too. The layout makes me think there’s new, different information in each spot, but really it’s hardly more than repeating the headline 3 times :(
Stop patronizing restaurants where they don’t pay their staff a livable wage.
In most parts of the US, that’s all of them. This position is de facto “never eat out or order takeout”. I’m not sure that’s entirely realistic.
Nice thread necromancy
My wife used to work in a call center for a major corporation (started in mid-late 2020). During recruiting, they claimed that WFH was a possibility within certain parameters.
… After she started, it turned out that the most important parameter was “based on seniority”. Between that and their low turnover rate among longer-term employees, I don’t think she ever would have been allowed WFH.
She’s a lot happier in a different job now.
I couldn’t name the group of people that it discrimates (sic) against though.
My best guess is people with disabilities, but I couldn’t really speculate on specifics.
Thank you for writing 57°F instead of 57.20°F :)
I just hope they actually have their social security card. A quick googling told me that you need a current ID to get the social security administration to issue a replacement card. Talk about a vicious cycle!
