A person with good ideas that leaves their religion at the door would be swell right now. Religion only divides us into smaller, scarier groups. (See: Christian nationalism, women’s rights, the middle east, etc.)

It’s not very sexy, but I just use SFTP and filezilla. Filezilla is available for all the major operating systems, and an ssh server is basically required anyways.

I enjoy Ubuntu server. At the end of the day I just want something simple. I run most of my services in docker compose, and zfs for the filesystem.

I cancelled around the time the password policy changed. I found less and less compelling shows to watch and the old favorites like the office moved on to other services.
It’s a bummer they aren’t facing consequences for their price hikes and other shenanigans .
I feel like the window manager is important, but for newbies I also consider the package manager and overall installation process to be very important.
I’ve had pretty distros that are basically busted after a package fails to install or video drivers are mucked with. An advanced user could fix most of these issues, but this is usually where a new user may go running back to their previous OS.
A good computing experience for me is all my hardware working with minimal fuss and all the software I expect to be available being a few terminal commands away (e.g. steam, developer tools, etc.)
I’d always rather shop at a store with real life helpful employees who are happy to work there because they are treated well and properly compensated. I hope companies continue to see the value in that approach.
In a new stadium in my city you swipe your credit card, pick up food or drink in a little monitored area and walk out with your items. It is an interesting idea but it is also creepy. That’s probably what stores will be like eventually – at least the ones with the resources to implement something that expensive and complex.
As far as self checkout, I don’t mind it for small orders or when it is more convenient for me at the grocery store. Unexpected item in bagging is a bad consumer experience, and buying produce/alcohol is also a pain. If I feel like I am going to run into trouble I head for the traditional lines.
I really despise the ones at big box hardware stores that show a video of you checking out. I’m not stealing, don’t judge me or make me judge myself with that unflattering angle.

The real trick is you cancel AND shop elsewhere. We get most of our necessities locally now at normal retail and I’ll occasionally put an Amazon order together when I need something specific and I’ll spend enough for free shipping.
I missed shopping there at first, but so much of their inventory is junk now; I feel like I actually get better quality from traditional retail. The $140/yr for Prime feels like free shipping but it obviously isn’t.
This idea is bad and whoever came up with it should feel bad.
They have a good business selling appliances, electronics, and computers. I think where they really make their money is on the extended warranties and services. It makes me sad they don’t have media anymore, but most everyone streams these days.
I grew up on Blizzard and Activision games, but the good feelings and nostalgia wore off when they started treating beloved franchises like DLC piggy banks.
That’s so wild. A smart company would be begging their employees to learn how to solve new problems on the weekend for fun. Intellectually curious people are exactly who you want.
The only way this would make sense would be if you signed an NDA or something that would prevent you from participating in the specific hackathon, because secrets.
