  • I know a lawyer at Roper-Greyell. The firm specializes in defending/protecting companies around employment law. They probably also consult on best practices for companies to avoid suits.

They are a law firm, but they are LMG’s law firm. Note that we’re reading what LMG wants to share about the report, not the report itself.

It’s a legal strategy to say, “Investigators didn’t find anything seriously wrong, and we’re considering suing you for defamation”

A lot of the other replies to your comment read between the lines in some insightful ways. I would just like to also add that “claims of bullying and harassment were not substantiated” means that the investigation didn’t find evidence. Not that the bullying/ harassment didn’t occur. It is kind of meaningless without knowing what information was looked at. What sorts of substantiation could reasonably be expected from the investigation?

It’s possible that the person making allegations has evidence that the investigators didn’t.

  • Your explanation makes sense to me, an uninvolved spectator with no particular knowledge of generators.

Maybe you direct the generator exhaust over the exterior of the tank? Would that be adequate heat?

My thought was to recall that my 20# propane tank has some sort of safety valve integrated into it that will clamp outflow if there is too big a surge in flow. Flow needs to be 0 for a minute or so for it to reset. But that doesn’t explain your experience with the larger tank.

Okay, I think $80 Canadian for a case, psu, mobo, cpu, & ram is sounding pretty reasonable. I just don’t know of its enough processing power for the video stuff. But I guess if not I can upgrade the mobo/cpu or add a graphics card.

    Thanks, that channel looks great.

Re offsite backup: Yes I don’t have so many family photos that it will be difficult/ expensive to store online. But I need to get them together first.

  • Yeah the inconsistencies are interesting.

Is it because of the “than”? Do we just not like saying “fewer than”? Because it wouldn’t offend my ear to hear “we need less than 5 chairs”, but “we need less chairs” is outrageous to me, (for less than however many chairs it takes for them to become dequantized) [I did it again there, did you notice?]

Or maybe it’s to do with the minutes being a quantization of something continuous, whereas usually we deal with the transition the other way.

“couches vs. furniture” couches are discrete, furniture is discrete things as a collective.

“time vs minutes” time is continuous, minutes are a quantization of it. That is a difference compared to couches/ furniture. How do we talk about other quantizations of continuous?

Distance: how far is it? Less than 5 miles. Maybe it’s an acknowledgement of the fact that we talk about miles but inherently understand that distance isn’t countable.

Oops that used “than” again. Uhhh… “the battery in my electric car is degraded so I get 10 less miles per charge”. Hmm I’m not sure if that sounds right…

  • Including facts in and of itself is never biased, only excluding facts can be.

I’m not convinced that’s a meaningful distinction for media analysis. Is there resource you could point me to better understand your point? Or some examples that illustrate your point? Eg: how would you go about making this article biased against DeSantis, which facts that were included would exclude to make it biased?

The true state of things is not a partial interpretation, it’s an impartial one. A preference or inclination does not mean bias.

Which is exactly why I said you don’t understand bias when you suggested reality might be biased.

    You’re conflating inclination with bias.

Could you show me where I’ve done this?

Anytime anything reads as preferring one side over the other, you think it’s biased.

Could you show me where I’ve done this?

  • That you personally think it’s a negative speaks more to your own bias than the inclusion of the details.

I don’t think it’s negative for people to be alienated from DeSantis. He’s a piece of shit.

    If you mean me specifically…

I don’t think I do. You understand what bias is and recognize it.

I agree my proposed alternative paragraph had a centrist bias, which isn’t something I had considered while drafting it. I think that’s because centrist bias is less overt. Since I was trying to contrast against the bias in the original article I still think it was appropriate.

I’m assuming (possibly incorrectly) that you think that the included details can only be taken negatively, what does that say about your own bias?

I’m not sure I understand your question. But this is the internet so I’ll answer anyway. I think bias against DeSantis is appropriate, especially in this community. But I didn’t think the article did it very well. I feel that way because it was so overt that I fear it would never be digested by anyone on the fence. Maybe it’s because I grew up and live in a slightly less dysfunctional democracy but I prefer news articles that help people understand others.

  • Some people, yourself included, have gone overboard on the sensitivity towards bias. You’re at the point that including facts reads to you as bias.

No, I have no problem with the bias. Yes deciding what facts to include is a way bias manifests. Everything has bias.

I do not have a preference for centrism. I’ve said that this community is an appropriate place for anti-desantis bias.

Someone asked how is this article biased and I gave an example of how it’s biased and everyone concluded I’m a radical centrist.

As you or someone else pointed out, a preference for centrism is a bias. I agree, but it’s a less overt bias.

    You’ve gone too far.

What the fuck, no! Someone asked how this article is biased and I gave an example.

The truth is Ron is a piece of shit. If speaking that truth is biased, then reality is biased.

I agree he is a piece of shit, but I don’t think you understand bias.
