I think there will end up being more cost overruns, more finger pointing, and more failures. I half expect Brightline to both start and finish their LA to Vegas rail before this project comes to its final conclusion.

California killed high speed rail in California. The project is like 3x over budget with no real end in sight. If Elon dedicated his entire net worth in 2013 to the project it would still be over budget.

If you instantly judge someone for having extremely common innocuous interests, you’re an asshole.

You do that, but leverage social justice rhetoric to act like you’re actually a good person for doing so.

I can talk about Star Wars and basically everyone I know has a lot of context. Most people have watched a good amount of it. Even people who are explicitly not nerds know about it. Same with most comic stuff.

Meanwhile Star Trek is still a lot more niche. People know the bare basics of what it is, but that’s about it. With the exception of my SO, I’ve met a grand total of two people who watch it.

Also if someone knows a lot about Star Wars or Marvel they don’t necessarily know a lot about other nerd IPs. Meanwhile the people who knew about Star Trek also knew about shit like Farscape, Dark Matter, and other IP that just gets confused looks from most people.

The Lemmy community is disproportionately made up of either computer nerds or queer people.

Star Trek is basically the most popular nerd IP that hasn’t been successfully brought into the mainstream, and is known for being progressive.

This post is laying the groundwork to say someone is somehow morally compromised for having certain interests. Those interests have been common interests for decades.

Right now, there’s 100 percent a mood that people who are morally compromised deserve to be mistreated.b

The end result of posts like these is nerds being bullied in the same way they used to before the whole anti bullying attitude started. Only this is even worse because the victims get told they are POSes who deserve it.

The Roman one specifically applies to basically every male history nerd. Same with WW2.

I’ve noticed that, after a relative lull, people are getting bullied for traditional reasons again. However the bullies code those reasons as deplorable, so that they can imply their targets are just assholes.

I can argue that everyone on Only fans is a pornstar, just that some are softcore pornstars. On the flip side some are prostitutes.

Twitch IMO is fucked up in a different way. This is a platform that pre-pubescent children frequently use. Allowing for nudity essentially creates a pipeline where kids hit puberty, form parasocial relationships with pornstars, and get unhealthy ideas about women.

Like in the past there used to be a lot more of a disconnect. Like if you went on pornhub, you were explicitly going to watch porn. The porn videos were well known to be completely over dramatized to the point where it can’t be taken as a realistic depiction of sex. The porn stars were explicitly porn stars. You had no idea about their personality and there was no concept of getting an emotional connection to them. There also was a general acknowledgement, even among the most liberal circles, that sex work was incredibly unhealthy.

Nowadays all of this shit is not only normalized to an insane degree, but the line between fiction and reality has been blurred to an insane degree.

Every time this comes up someone says “Oh what’s the harm? PRUDE”. There are some things that are harmful in ways that are difficult to explain, and not at all immediately clear. I feel like our current sex culture is a good example of that.

I’m gonna get downvoted, but this culture where teenagers can form parasocial relationships with what are essentially softcore pornstars and a culture where women can very easily become pornstars isn’t healthy.

If this becomes common enough there’s gonna be a whole cottage industry of jailbreaking cars.

Hyundai/Kia owners have, in large numbers, told Kia Group about quality issues their cars have. Their usual response is to gaslight everyone until some government agency sues.

I cannot think of a car company I’d trust less to do this than Hyundai/Kia.

The FCC under Biden has a long term plan to reclassify the internet under Title II, which would allow much stricter and wider ranging regulations.

Jezebel published article after article of extremely offensive and cruel content. I’m pretty sure at one point they published an article about how they beat their spouses. Their former owner stated in court that he would publish a sex tape if the participant was older than 4. Their former EIC talked about how it was important to bully nerds into submission.

These people are fucking psychopaths. It’s a good thing they are done.

I’m also not 100 percent sure the premise of this is correct. There are tons of articles on abortion from less tabloid style news orgs.
