If lemmy gets big enough, it will be just like that. Your problem is not a Reddit problem but an Internet forum with nested threads problem. It’s much harder to hyperfocus on a comment in a flat comment structure.

That’s the point of a fediverse. When lemmy.ml admins go crazy and adopt ridiculous policies, you can simply switch to another instance. If all the subs go into an instance, than it’s just the same as reddit, which is a single point of failure.

I don’t get it. Why would you call that more efficient? In your example a profit driven company will grow at a higher rate than a FOSS project right ? So in what way is it more efficient?
