hi. are you me? lol
hi. are you me? lol
I’m an Aussie in my early-mid 30s. I’ve been living in the USA for the past 11 years. I’ve been a software developer, mostly focusing on web development, since the late 90s personally and since the mid 2000s professionally.
so your birth year would be somewhere between 1987 to 1993; you started professional web development when you were 14 to 20 years old? you moved to the us somewhere between 20 and 26 years old?
i didn’t even start dating until i was 27 and my career at 26 while my first website was at 16 years old and i never truly left the country; you’re either very impressive or lucky af! i envy you! ;)
Linux user, still tweaking colors and theme options in their DE after 4 years: Let me finish setting up my device!
switch to gnome; customizations are intentionally buried because a huge majority of users don’t go very deep w with them.
and a vm or 2
i was forced to use systemd professionally when it was buggy and broke all the time in its first releases in the red hat eco system; so it’s fair that some people would hold grudges against it.
i just left austin because it’s becoming an increasingly facist shithole because anyone with above room temperature iq in austin knows that the state will continue to do everything in its power to reign in austin so they leave; like i did.
the only gem in that place is houston and that is a much bigger target in the texas government’s eyes than austin ever was.
there are holdouts and they will continue to hold out; ineffectually and pointlessly struggling for the rest of their lives.
add arizona to that list
apple and google are helping lead the charge against carplay and android auto
car makers started phasing out dins in 2013 and they don’t give warnings if newer models don’t include them, so you better buy sooner rather than later
What are the odds GM starts charging a subscription fee to access apps on these vehicles?
that’s why theyre doing it and both apple and google are helping them.
The Fediverse is undeniably very left leaning currently, which is surprising to me since you’d think the anti-censorship design on paper would appeal more to people on the right who are against big tech and censorship, but I guess not? It’s interesting.
american conservatives care more about denying rights and liberties than anything else as evidenced by their leaders and publicly shared platforms; so if you believe that censorship has anything to do w it, you’re not a conservative.
yes, it’s the definition of privilege since most don’t have that privilege and i’ve recently become a member to that privileged class (for now atleast); which is how i can recognize it.
i also do software and i was in austin and left a couple of weeks ago because i’m not cishet nor white but still experienced enough bigotry (especially from gay texans) that it was impacting my psyche, so i had to leave and i feel sorry for whomever is like me but is stuck there because of something as silly as not having the opportunity to do software.
A majority have crabs-in-a-bucket mentality and this “news story” is meant for them
i act my wage and i double or triple it when i work somewhere i don’t like.
Why does this article exist? Who cares what tech workers think about someone else’s pay rate?
is there to make people mad that the drivers are getting paid more and make you more predisposed to hate unions.
Is there anything actually interesting inside?
the inside or substance doesn’t matter; what matters is that it gets attention (like it is here) and makes other mad enough that drivers are getting paid so much more than they are that they support politicians and laws capping/crippling pay transparency.
That would got their gd attention.
it always gets their attention and then they pay people to lobby our government to get a lowered; which also always happens.
i wish they made rugged and water proof versions so my clumsy ass could buy one.
i think that’s why the fediverse is doomed to perpetual obscurity. my reddit-refugee addictions have taught me that only reddit has the content that i like and that i need to learn how to appreciate stuff i don’t like to get my fix; i wonder how people get started on furry stuff. lol
the lemmyverse was created by tankies as a leftists social media platform; it moved to center right and octupled in users when reddit went full corporate.
there’s a lot of overlap between lgbtq and left leaning views as well as left leaning views and foss enthusiasts.
