The suyu devs do not understand the legalities behind why yuzu was shut down. It wasn’t because of keys. It was because it could break copyright protection mechanisms, which is in violation of the dmca.

The suyu devs think that by saying, “we don’t support piracy, you have to provide your own keys” is enough, and there’s case law to show it isn’t. Your project needs to be incapable of breaking copyright protection mechanisms with or without keys.

If I buy a single player game, more than likely, valve is making entirely profit on that 30%. The cost of the download is below a penny to valve. Yet they still get s third of that companies revenue.

Charge them for the services if you want. They aren’t doing thst, they are taking 30% of an industries revenue for doing nearly nothing.

Why should valve, or sony, or Apple, or Google get 30% of the revenue of entire industries for having a download and payment service.

It’s extortionate and undeserved. When I play a game I absolutely love, one third of the money for that game didn’t go to the people who made it, it went to valves endless bucket of money. It’s not right and we should not be defending these extremely high cuts.

Yeah, I think the ‘successors’ are still in dmca violation (at least one not sure about the other). But it’s still early days, anyway. Yuzu was successful because of the dedicated team behind it. Just setting up other repos doesn’t mean much yet. It’s gonna take months to see how things shake out.

But you can’t deny the potential chilling effect of it all. Nintendo has shown that they will come for you.

Honestly, anyone that was gonna emulate switch already knew, and nintendo has all their big hitters out of the way so isn’t going to be loosing much in terms of sales to piracy at this point. they just want a chilling effect for switch 2

this is a fairly broad question, so I’ll ignore it and just use it as an excuse to bring up my three favourite ports of the past few years - which just happen to be M2 ported sega games

• Outrun: 60fps outrun on a nice display. Doesn’t have the cd arrangements of the saturn version but outrun doesn’t really need that, and man it’s just fun to play
• Virtua Racing: oooh geez, virtua racing has never looked this good before. silky smooth 60fps port running at HD. the game is still the same it ever was, nothing added. but it’s really a joy to play now
• Phantasy Star 1: it’s a shame the other games didn’t get the treatment the first one did, but the quality of life improvements make this the default choice for playing Phantasy Star now. dungeon mapping so you can figure out where you are without a guide and easy access to manual stuff, great time.

I’m gonna just preface this by saying Nintendo suck and I don’t agree with what they are doing.

But it’s worth understanding what is happening here, nintendo isn’t just throwing random legalize against the wall to find something that sticks. They are specifically going after yuzu via a fairly well tested part of the DMCA.

The DMCA allows them this, and if you don’t feel like nintendo or anyone else should get to dictate what device you play the games you own on, you should be looking into whatever you can do to pressure your representatives to add to the many exceptions of that dmca clause for this purpose.
