Do you have a link to the guide by any chance? I might try it again using one of my throw away domains as a test.

My ISP doesn’t. It an electric company that offers fiber, so not your typical telecommunications company. Still though, not a single blocked port.
On topic, I tried an email server and it is too much of a pain in the ass IMHO, without the requisite training and experience, but certainly not impossible.
I don’t believe they don’t use the YouTube API. So the changes Google might make wouldn’t necessarily affect Grayjay.
Bruh… That quoted text says that it is a monotheistic religion. Please just learn the thing and don’t die on the hill. They have a holy book (the guru granth sahib ji), together with a wider collection of religious and philosophical works (the bani). They have rituals and the like. Things like the 5 Ks. They believe in a singular deity (Ik Onkar) who is, according to Sikhism, the same deity that the Muslims call Allah. Onkar is the Punjabi symbol for Aum (A very important Hindu concept). The gurus (their leaders), are supposed to be god. The idea is that they are a reflection of God, likening God to the ocean and the gurus to a bucket that is filled by the ocean. Their holy book is the last and final guru and simultaneously god and leader/teacher.
Point of the above is I know what I am talking about. All of those are definitely religions with a belief in deities and afterlifes and holy books and miracles, etc…
Sikhism is a staunchly monotheistic religion.
British colonialism bad.
This goes far before the British. Before the British, there were the Mughals. This part of the indian culture is old and predates either of these two. The caste system has been around forever.
Edit: Bit of clarity.
I do think we may be over-prescribing these to a certain degree, but I know people whose lives are impacted for the better due to medication for ADHD, for example. Its easy to understand when you see someone with severe symptoms one day, then calmer and more focused the next.
…bruh
That honestly sounds like a conspiracy theory. You think that a bunch of people and corporations are putting time, money and energy into these projects to break the very thing they are designed for? I really think you should do some research on exactly how the Wayland project got its start and who was involved. Spoiler, it was a bunch of Xorg developers as I understand it.
Plus the fact that desktop Linux was already fragmented by its nature. You think they want to fragment the already fragmented thing under the pretext of improvement? Fragment it by what? Providing a newer standard that is better enough than the old, that it actually convinces most groups to adopt it.
Its legit the opposite, but the beauty of right now is that the various fragmented Linux ecosystems (distros, desktop environments, etc) are more alive and more healthy now than ever before.
Edit: grammar and clarity
I use FreeIPA and it works just fine for everything I would need AD for. Your point still stands. I just mean there are good enough alternatives for the Linux environment.
Smart! Since posting my answer, I’ve been looking at it and I was planning in doing just that or something similar. I already upload my photos to Nextcloud just as a backup mechanism without the Photos app installed. I could easily set this up tonight to test. Thanks for the tip!
Same person answering from Lemmy because character limit.
I don’t know much about digiKam, but looking at it got me interested in checking it out! One problem I have with Immich is that there is really good Android integration with its app, but poor Desktop integration (I use a web app).
For Immich, I suppose you could mount an external library and use that same folder for digiKam. Immich will store its own set of files in its data structure for the external library, not the pictures just it’s own metadata as I understand it. Any changes will be reflected in Immich after a library scan. (I will be trying this option soon.😁)
You could do the same with Nextcloud by just mounting the Nextcloud drive and setting its photos folder as the folder for digiKam, I suppose. You would be losing out mainly on Android integration with the Immich app. I can’t whatever the opposite of recommend the Nextcloud options enough.
Pretty much. There is good sense in teaching a standard to ensure communication is possible, but language can and does evolve. We should allow the changes to happen and document them for future language nerds.
You’re probably right. I mean. I need most of the network devices, and I didn’t list everything I am running on each, just big things. I do need to consolidate some if them though. Its been a trip and has made me a better IT though.

Thank you. Sounds exactly like what I’m planning. I am looking at ISPMail now and will be attempting to follow the directions soonly.
Why move to ISPMail over Mailinabox or Modoba or some other alternative?
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Nope. No issues whatsoever. DigitalOcean is great. Just curious what this community thought. My main concern is, again, one of choosing as ethical a solution as I can find. I cited Amazon because they are a nightmare company for many reasons and would rather not give them money. With that said, I would also like a service that I can rely on.
I am thinking about proton mail, but I want to try to host an email sever with one of my cheap throwaway domains to see if it would be worth self hosting for my main domain. That’s the other part of why I am choosing to self host. I am genuinely curious how stuff works under the hood.
This is very helpful. Thank you!
