I’m assuming they’re North American.
I’m assuming they’re North American.
How does this work with local laws regarding 2 party recording? If you’re on a video call and this records the other party without their permission, that is AFAIU illegal in many states in the US. I’m sure in parts of Europe as well.
Yeah that’s not correct, downloading pirated content is still illegal, but it makes no sense for copyright holders to go after 1 person for a movie that costs $20.
You go after the uploader strictly because you can sue for damages for each person/ip they uploaded to. It’s just strictly a monetary and legal thing as to why only the uploaders are taken to court.
Pretty sure even if you block uploads with your torrent client you will still get a DMCA for downloading from a public tracker.

Cable TV exists
Customers hate it and people start pirating
Netflix comes around, other streaming services
People happy, piracy goes down
Streaming services go back to the way cable was, increased prices, reduced content, started bundling shit you don’t want.
Customers start pirating again
Surprised Pikachu face
If you wanna help your case stop referring to women as “females”. It makes them sound like objects.
(U.S. specific rant incoming)
As long as they actually advocate for queer rights and don’t vote for politicians who do everything in their power suppress and restrict those rights.
The issue is many religious people value their religious “principles” more than they do voting for someone who would not repress the queer community.
So at the end of the day it feels very two-faced to me. While they may be nice to your face they have no problem voting for people who would condemn you to hell and treat you like animals because their single issue voting tendencies are ingrained.
I use a private tracker and never get any mentions from my ISP because the studios aren’t on the private trackers to search for IPs because they don’t get invited and also would get banned for not seeding.
I made the mistake of using a public tracker to download something I couldn’t find on my private tracker and got forwarded a DMCA notice the next day by my ISP.

Lol yeah, okay. Talk to me when you can actually get to most sites with IPv6.
It seems like the US voted against it because Russia was using it as a political ploy and excuse to try and invade Ukraine. (Ukraine is “full of Nazis” sound familiar?)
That’s why Ukraine voted against it too.
The United States says it was one of three countries to vote against a U.N. resolution condemning the glorification of Nazism over freedom of speech issues and concerns that Russia was using it to carry out political attacks against its neighbors.
Ukraine and Palau were the other no votes.
“We condemn without reservation all forms of religious and ethnic intolerance or hatred at home and around the world,” said Deputy U.S. Representative to the Economic and Social Council Stefanie Amadeo, explaining the U.S. vote.
“This resolution’s recommendations to limit freedom of expression, freedom of association, and the right to peaceful assembly contravene the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and must be opposed,” Amadeo said.
The UN resolution wanted to quash “antisemitic” protests very much like the ones we’re seeing in the US right now. So really if you’re against the Bill this post is about, you should be okay with the US voting no on that UN resolution.
On the flip side, if the genders were changed in this situation and the guy only wanted the woman because of superficial reasons like she was attractive or popular, how many people would be saying “he got what he deserves”
This is definitely one of those double standard situations. While we shouldn’t be victim blaming, I think there’s something to be said for calling out people who are willing to throw away an existing relationship or form a new relationship just because an “influencer” came up to them and they thought they were rich. And I think that’s what the poster you are responding to was getting at.
It’s a different type of plastic, AFAIK it’s like a spray on polymer for the aluminum cans; But I think the biggest factor is probably UV degradation of the ingredients in the soda with the clear plastic bottles.
Aloomineeum
It’s true, but the amount of plastic in the cans is pretty negligible, especially compared to plastic bottles and the aluminum can is still by far the most recyclable beverage container.
Also there are new linings that don’t use plastic but natural materials called oleoresinous linings but they’re not good for acidic things so they’re not very wildly used.
That’s not entirely true. In the early days they used wax to line the cans because steel still leaves a taste in the drink. It just didn’t work very well and also caused carbonation issues as the CO2 diffused into the wax.
They already do in the US, they sell beer like this. And I’m pretty sure I’ve seen water packaged like this too.
They’ll say this initially to downplay the threat, but quickly turn the message back around because they know that “US air superiority is still unrivaled even with the latest developments from foreign governments” doesn’t get them funding and doesn’t sell planes. Look at how they pivoted with China’s stealth fighter:
It’s not the first time a DoD official has verbally shrugged at a key part of China’s military aviation modernization plan. In September 2022, former Pacific Air Forces Commander Gen. Kenneth Wilsbach told reporters that the J-20 stealth fighter isn’t “anything to lose a lot of sleep over.” (The DoD intelligence official today said the J-20 is “still a highly capable system” but one that did not “meet all of [China’s] original parameters.”)
It went from “not anything to lose sleep over” to “still a highly capable system”. Notice the bill funding the replenishment of the weapons stockpile after sending the old stuff to Israel and Ukraine just passed so they need to justify their proposed contracts.
Yeah that’s a lot of work. That’s why I just sail the high seas and put stuff on Plex.
The issue is every competitor will use the same targeted ads. No advertiser who is not using targeted ads by utilizing tracking data will never be as competitive because their ads won’t be as effective.
Until we can kill these types of advertising by making laws against it or make tools that counteract them widespread enough that it makes the business unprofitable we will continue to have our data used against us.
