  • I mean yes you’re right but also most microorganisms that cause disease die quickly without their little droplets and particles to cling to.

On the other hand, procedure masks rely on those droplets to be the microorganism carriers that they can more easily stop instead of falling back on electrostatic attraction as the lil guys float through em.

In conclusion, infectious disease is a land of contrasts and while hospitals can rely on technologically advanced hvac systems to maintain a narrow range of temperature and humidity that represents a trade off between reduced micro environments, reduced airborne transmission and safely storing all their poultices and potions, normal people need to just do our best and maybe should accept the reduced mold and microorganisms over all in exchange for more chance of airborne transmission when cleaning our homes and workplaces (which are all fucked if there’s airborne transmission anyway because no one has appropriate air cleaners in their home or workplace).

  • If you’re able to hold it long enough and you’re truly worried, folding a wet paper towel over a couple of times and using the hand soap to clean the seat and then folding it over again to get a “rinse” before you sit down is a better way to go about it.

“I’m worried about germs on the toilet seat”

“Well, they gave you paper towels, soap and running water, why not clean the motherfucker?”

“Nah, imma just put the thinnest material known to man in between my butt and the seat”

  • ~Things people don’t want to know~

Putting a layer of tissue between your butt and the toilet seat doesnt provide enough of a barrier against microorganisms over the time it takes to shit or piss to prevent transmission.

Keeping the air dry reduces both the length of time microorganisms can live outside your body and the length of time that vapor particles can harbor them.

The n95 (and other) rating(s) are over time in free, circulating, open air. Derate safe exposure time sharply for use inside or in spaces with stagnant or unmoving air.

  • Everything is encrypted with iCloud except for email and something else that’s obviously not encrypted that I can’t fucking remember.

iCloud encryption can be defeated with a server side key that’s used by Apple if you need to recover your account (so like you get your account hijacked or forget your password or something). Apple can be compelled by subpoena, like any other company, to provide the contents of your iCloud because they have this capability.

If you don’t like that, you can turn on advanced data protection, which deletes their server side key, generates new keys and re encrypts everything after you write down your special alphanumeric key without which your iCloud contents are inaccessible.

The security checkup in settings will let you figure out who has access to what.

  • You can look at security failures as mistakes or conspiracies.

It’s very easy to see the Microsoft failures as conspiracies the more you learn about them because Microsoft’s material interests are aligned with the failures. To steal someone’s turn of phrase: “Microsoft gives you a foot gun for free but charges for bulletproof shoes”.

It’s very easy to see apples security failure as mistakes because the more you learn about them the more you see how apples material interests arent aligned with the failures. If I had to make a similar one liner, “apple sells you designer shoes with drop rated toe boxes. They might not be bulletproof, but you also don’t have a foot gun.”

  • It would be cool to have as much information about the icon design and window decorations of those oses as we have about the windows startup sound (look the making of that up sometime if you want to know the absolute heights of decadence software development hit and what Microsoft could do when they were really trying to compete with Apple).

Reading back, I was a jerk in my response to you, getting all “well actually” over a meme about 90s kids because it used the wrong name for the language of different designs.

    Mea culpa. Im sorry.

  • If you hewed to the ops memes incorrect description, Memphis would have been the 80s and mid 90s. It’s interesting that the meme takes into consideration the concept of the long 70s but then just goes back to ten year distinctions. windows 3 (I assume you’re not talking about the early dos shell stuff because no one ever is and you put it squarely amongst the contemporaries of 95, but I’ll give the benefit of the doubt since we’re talking design language) went from ‘90-2003 (with ME) macos 7-9 spanned ‘91-2001 and beos was 95-2000.

It’s possible you aren’t sticking to that flawed understanding though, so let’s talk about design language and Memphis. You’re right that designs are informed by their tools and mediums. For Memphis group those tools were drafting paper and those mediums were chipboard and naugahide. Memphis group made couches and shelves, not software or digital art.

Now that’s not to say that only stuff from a specific cadre of Italian designers made during a short period is Memphis and everything else is sparkling crayon scribbles, only that the stuff we actually recognize as Memphis wasn’t pixel art by any measure.

Most of what is in the meme under Memphis isn’t even Memphis though, it’s pop art. I think the pants are a haring print…

With all that said, what about windows (were you talking about windows 3+?), macos 7-9 and beos would you say were sparkling crayon scribbles, pop art or genuinely drawing from the design language of the Memphis group?
