Sure, “no man sets foot in the same river twice”, but that does nothing to argue against the preservation of cultural items.

Take music, for instance. I never feel the same way the second time listening to a song as I did the first time, but that doesn’t make the music less special or change anything about it at all, and it certainly does nothing to advance a hypothetical argument that music shouldn’t be recorded or that the recordings of it shouldn’t be preserved for future enjoyment or different audiences.

Decades ago SCM was done through CVS and SVN and other pieces of garbage until Linus came out with Git which a main reason that it is so good IMO is its speed. Google Chrome arrived on the scene in a lot of the same way (of course now it’s as bloated a cow as any other browser, but at the time it was faster than anything available).

Electron is basically a creation of idiot middle management who insist that the web app and the app app be the same exact thing and be developed by the same group of understaffed, underpaid, underappreciated developers. So they worked out a framework to make it so they could change something in one place and have it reflected everywhere.

But it’s still as potato as it gets.

I will also never understand how JavaScript development has gotten so complicated with seemingly zero benefits. It takes minutes to do a “frontend build” and the output grows larger all of the time. I bumped into some Angular crap that was hundreds of megabytes somehow, and still AJAX fetched the same info 4x on page load because the “MVCC” or whatever it’s called didn’t even buy them the abstraction of using the same values multiple times on one page…

I have developed personalized tools as part of my job and I chose qt to write them in partially because if a company I work for would ever try to commercialize them, they’d have to either buy qt licenses or open source them.

I cheat a bit though because I use qt through python.

I agree, if you’re putting your internal domain names into the public DNS you do not need a star cert.

I agree that this is a good idea, but I wanted to add that if someone owns a domain already, they can also use that internally without issue.

If you own a domain and use Let’s Encrypt for a star cert, you can have nice, well secured internal applications on your network with trusted certificates.

You tell yourself whatever you need to, but they’ve done studies and those nozzles were almost always covered in poop bacteria from the people using them, the people “cleaning” them or a combo.

Don’t care. Self serve machines are basically covered in diarrhea anyway. Everytime I awkwardly and semi-accidentally turn something into a combo I grimace as I use the taps some kid was just wiping their snot on.

Corporations are all about stepping over dollars to pick up pennies.

In one example of this, during one job interview / recruitment process I essentially had to do all of the background check company’s work for them.

That makes literally no sense at all, and I’m not surprised when there’s cases of people just pretending to be doctors or whatever for decades. The “doctors” probably verified their own employment history and credentials.

Personally, I think the reason chat bots had to be the next thing is that these dweebs had to invent themselves a friend.

I ignored the rest of the wall of text because I don’t respect walls of text. They’re fine when required which is rarely.

Artists are largely not computer experts and artists using AI are buying Microsoft or Adobe or using freebies and pondering paid upgrades. They are also renting rather than buying because everything’s a subscription service now.

A far bigger market for AI is for non-artists and scammers to fill up Amazon’s bookstore and the broader Internet full of more trash than it already was.

Sure so maybe respond to what I actually said and what’s actually happening. Which isn’t all small artists suddenly enjoying a new, free, easy to use tool and is much more like Microsoft, Nvidia, and Adobe making lots of money off of “AI”.
