Oh you mean that the number 256 overflows into 0 in 8-bit range. My joke was leaning more into the idea that when you use all 256 possible bit combinations (1111 1111), it can represent -1 in signed integer formats. Even though 255 is the highest number you can directly represent, there are still 256 total combinations, including zero, so IMO, the joke works.

Skill issue. Try the following:

• be born into a different family that did have a Mega Drive
• time travel back in time and give yourself a Mega Drive
• travel to an alternate universe (or as I like to call it, time travel sideways) where Mega Drives are standard issue at birth

I mean, if you log in to Facebook at all, whatever MacOS collects is a drop in a bucket in comparison.

I didn’t say it’s perfect, but it’s not terrible. And I think that page is mostly about Apple services, like iCloud and stuff, not MacOS specifically. It’s not necessary to use the services.

Ubuntu has Snap and ads and stuff, but I thought Manjaro was considered good. What’s wrong with it? It’s supposed to be Arch based.

Privacy and data collection-wise MacOS is fine. It’s their main selling point. Doesn’t even force updates on you. I know it’s a low bar, but damn Windows bar is at the floor at this point.

There aren’t that many. A good chunk of us here are Linux nerds. You don’t have to be condescending about confronting (I assume) intentional misinterpretation of comments.

I suppose, at this point, I want to understand whether you accidentally misinterpreted the context of the original comment (downloading .exe from TPB) or intentionally misinterpreted it for “comedic effect”.

So is your point to argue semantics?

“Downloading” colloquially referes to the proces of saving some data onto persistent storage device. When you open HTML pages they are loaded directly into RAM. They might be saved to drive if they are cached. But no regular person would refer to that process as downloading. Even I, as a webdev, don’t.

In that case your comment doesn’t make much sense, because when people say “don’t trust that torrent site” they mean the contents of the torrents hosted there. In fact, if you use magnets, you don’t download anything at all from torrent sites ever.

Tbh, Steam Deck as PC becomes annoying pretty fast. Once you try doing something serious and run into Valve’s (rightfully placed) limitations, it stops being viable/fun. As an example, I can’t make it output 4K@60 in Desktop mode, stuck in 4K@30. Recently, my pacman broke after an update.

I suppose it’s great if you dualboot with a proper Linux distro.
