Have you considered CrossFit?
I must have missed it if this had just been posted in another community.
This is the way.
Social media will jump from one super important and stressful thing that we all need to lose sleep over to the next with or without us. Yes, these things might be important, but a lot of online activism seems to be about who can scare more people into supporting X, Y, or Z with zero regard for the reader’s mental health, the rhetoric used, or even being 100% factual.
It doesn’t hurt to disengage every so often.
I try to watch what I read online, and it truly helps.
Do:
Keep yourself informed by reading bland articles about climate studies with direct interviews from the scientists conducting them.
Stay knowledgeable about who to vote for to support reasonable climate policies.
Do NOT:
Read articles that inject opinions from the web journalist, terrifyingly worded headlines designed to get you to click, or anything written for a secondary purpose (e.g. voter mobilization).
Get your info 2nd, 3rd, or 4th hand from social media personalities on tiktok, youtube, twitter, or any website with an algorithm than rewards the most extreme takes with more engagement.
Let fear prevent you from living the life you want to live or making long term plans.
I recently dipped my toe into Linux with a raspberry pi and couldn’t figure out why Firefox was so laggy. I thought maybe I did something wrong.
I just read the article and will definitely be watching the video when I can. What a wild story.
Excuse me, what kind of technology…?
I had to deal with their T&S for my account being locked once. It was indeed a nightmare.
I consider myself pretty reserved and knew that I had never said or shared anything even remotely problematic, so I appealed, and they denied the request without even looking at it, then refused to respond to further questions (or even tell me what I supposedly did). It took me publicly complaining about the whole ordeal on social media for about a week for someone at discord to notice, look at my case, and finally realize a mistake had been made and unlock my account. They still never explained what happened.
Discord support is the absolute worst. I hope to never have to deal with them again.
I love that he called it “vger”
I mean, probably Linux at some point. I’ve dipped my toes in as a complete novice, but I expect I’ll take the full dive eventually.
This user is just the latest in a series of spammers since Lemmy has grown in popularity. It’s hard to tell if they have some vendetta against the platform or are just maladjusted and want to annoy people having a good time.
As someone who posts across Lemmy a lot, I am usually made aware of the spammers almost immediately, because my inbox will be full of the same spam comment replies all at once. I just report them up to the various instances when I see it.
There are problems in the world, but it’s important to remember that both news and social media get way more engagement when showing you doom and outrage, so the most extreme takes rise to the top.
It’s good to be informed, but don’t let the doomsaying scare you out of living your life.
It’s important to remember that you don’t owe it to anyone to engage in a comment fight. If someone decides to be grouchy and try to pull you into an argument, you can just ignore it and move on with your day.
I post a lot of memes across Lemmy, and you’d be surprised (or maybe not) how often someone goes out of their way to be upset and attempt to bait me or others into arguing with them. I think some people just enjoy being mad, but I’m not one of them, so I’ve decided that it’s not worth the mental energy to engage with that.
If I had seen it posted, I would have held off. I’m not subbed to every community on this instance if you saw it somewhere else.
You know how in Starcraft, Infestors could take over a unit and parade it around to do its bidding?
It sounds kind of like that, but with the Starcraft brand.
