The computer is inaccessible, and if you did that, the best way to fix it, while also avoiding any other potential issues stemming from that, is just to reinstall the thing.

You can if you want, but Lemmy doesn’t translate them, like Mastodon does, and you might find them conflicting with the header Markup.
That, and Lemmy users used to a more Reddit-like structure of posting might get rather annoyed by it, since it would clog up the feed with unhelpful information.
If the embedded system is old or poorly-maintained enough, there might be more Rust than you’d think.
Unless FPS means “files per second”, I don’t see why it would, past the point of usability. You can only type so quickly, and 50 frames is as meaningful as 144.
If you get to that point where frames per second does matter, you’re either the fastest typist known to mankind, or it might be worth finding a more efficient way of doing what you’re doing.
Unclear. They don’t give their reasoning beyond “complicated = bad”, and very specifically leave it up to the imagination of the reader.
While they make some interesting points with regards to overcomplication and scope creep, there are also good reasons why we’re still not using programs like ed
as text editors, such as it being arcane and unintuitive.
vi
will at least helpfully point out :exit is not an editor command
. Instead, ed
will not-so-helpfully point out ?
.
When you think of a bloated text editor, you would not expect VI to be that. If anything, it’s closer to the opposite.
You can easily log and archive things that happen on an open protocol, not so much a proprietary one like discord.
In fairness, the place isn’t called “sensible questions”.
That’s the part where you give up and randomly shove/unshove symbols in until the code works.
But isn’t the point of this post being that the CPU still runs games okay without a dedicated video card?
It’s hardly a useful comparison to compare the CPU on its own against a Video Card + CPU.
If it was the i3 on its own, that might be a different story.
In fairness, computers have aged a lot better than they did 20 years ago, in the far-off year of 2000.
My computer is a desktop from 2013 or so (With an i7-4770) , and other than some upgrades to the RAM (8 -> 16 GB) and the graphics (GT640 -> RX570), it’s still fairly solid, and will run most things fairly decently.
By comparison, trying to use a computer from 2005 in 2015 was a much tougher ask, since it struggled a lot more with even just bare Windows 10.
Could you not just slot in a dedicated video card if you needed one, keeping the integrated as a backup?
Although that could also be them being perplexed by the fact that muggles did it with no magic at all.
Imagine us discovering a species that developed computers and tech just like ours, but using neither transistors nor electricity.
On the bright side, if they weren’t completely awake before, they would be afterwards.
This isn’t really the problem, I think. MKBHD touched on this but this system doesn’t seem to have a killer app. There’s a bunch of stuff you can do with it, but which of those things can be done better than just using a computer?
It doesn’t lean into the VR aspect very much either. You can’t just use it by flapping your hands about like you’re Iron Man.
Other than that, it just acts like a virtual screen. Neat, but not particularly different from a regular screen in usage, other than the ability to resize at will, which people don’t generally do that often on their computers.
Or if you find the project a while later, and the link/server is dead, either because the maintainer forgot to update the link, or the server shut down/removed invites for some reason, like spam prevention.
MAC address is tied to motherboards IIRC
It isn’t. It’s tied to your network hardware, and can be randomised/changed at will (or at least, the one it sends out can be altered). Some phones do that when connecting, to make it harder to track them, for example.
If you’re using an ethernet port on your motherboard, then it’d be tied to that, but if you’re using Wi-Fi/Ethernet from a Network card, it’ll be connected to the card.
Road wear might also be a concern. If it’s similar wear as a traction engine trundling down the road, the wear might make it unsuitable for most roads.
Internet Explorer also called it “InPrivate”.
The box what goes bang if you poke it wrong.
