You mean something like RCS?
Hehe yeah, that’s always fun. The bare concrete. At least it’s better then Germany, where you have to bring your own kitchen…
When I had the viewing of my current apartment, they said they were gonna give me a 10 litre bucket of white paint. Even tho the place didn’t look that badly painted, but more because they always did that.
Yeah I think it’s the same… new apartments come with almost everything including the proverbial kitchen sink.
My current place (built in 2008) has a kitchen that includes an microwave oven, fridge and stove top. The only thing it doesn’t have is a dishwasher.
As a fellow Dutchy… my current place is the first place I ever lived in that came with a combination oven and microwave.
Previously I’ve always had to supply my own microwave / oven ;-)
Oh this guy is my inner spirit nerd.
Same…
Haha that is true… 🤔
Usually it isn’t hard to implement…but that largely depends on the backend.
Might take a crack at this, this weekend.
Make sure to check the issues/PRs, it looks like people already worked on CTRL+Enter.
Oh damn! That’s nice! But that means I have to find another thing to do :P
On the frontend, it’s primarily React and Bootstrap. I do have some experience with React (with TypeScript), so that’s good! And Bootstrap, that has been a few years…
Hahah… Shit, now you got me intrigued… xD
Yesterday I was annoyed at wide code blocks being wrapped, instead of having a horizontal scrollbar, so I took 20 minutes of googling and hacking around with my minimal css skills and wrote a PR, it’s already merged and will probably show up on instances soon.
Very nice!! Congratulations!
Maybe you know more about web or android development, then you could look into contributing to the lemmy-ui or jerboa.
Yes that’s definitely one the things I am leaning towards. On my main “gripes” with Lemmy right now, is the lack of keyboard shortcuts (think of stuff like, CRTL+enter to send a reply for example). So I wanna see if I can add that in the frontend repository.
One of the first things I did when I learned about Lemmy and joined an instance is see if I could contribute in some way, shape or form.
But unfortunately it’s written in Rust, a language in which I have 0 experience and 0 knowledge. :(
Oh definitely that the next couple of weeks will be spent preparing for a new wave. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the reason why Lemmy.ml was down. Yes I know that it was because of a server migration but, that server migration also didn’t happen for no reason ;-)
The first migration wave to Mastodon was very bad. I still remember, that following a person was nearly impossible. Not to mention the fact that, even if you could follow someone, it didn’t automatically meant their messages ended up in your feed.
I know for example that version 0.17.4 of Lemmy (that was released 2 days ago) already has some database optimizations.
I’m not sure the ‘like email’ thing helps. Email is confusing and not what most people use to connect with others. I don’t know anyone who met via email.
In my experience it at least helps in the sense that, when people ask “why are there more then 1 site?” ? And up to a certain degree you use that to explain the concept of federating.
But yeah, I get what you mean. I eagerly await the day the engineering communities will go completely ham with their skills. 😄
Here! Have a very skookum upvote!
In theory, I agree with you! A 100%, but the problem is that currently Lemmy doesn’t support migrating your profile to a different server. So that already slightly complicates things. So from the get-go they are forced to make choice. A choice which isn’t clear, what potential consequences are and the fact they currently easily migrate to a different server, obviously doesn’t help.
“Like email” is basically the same description I’ve been using to explain it to non-tech people.
Long story short, onboarding needs to get better. But that also applies for other Fediverse projects (like Mastodon or Friendica).
I just also tried this from the EU (NL to be exact). The moment I disable IPv6 it works, if I re-enable it, my OS prefers to pick IPv6 over IPv4 and thus I get a 502 error again.
After doing a WHOIS, it appears that Lemmy.ml is hosted on OVHCloud.
Edit:
As follow up on that, OVH cloud does appear to be doing some maintenance on their infrastructure: https://www.status-ovhcloud.com/
For all the oldies in the room, Lindows / Linspire (me included)
Trying to merge Wine with Linux into one ““convenient”” package was overselling it at best and worst a lie. Back in '08 / '09 I tried to run it, just to see how good (or bad) it was. It was basically Debian with KDE and their special sauce on top to ““easily”” run Windows binaries. Especially in those day, WINE wasn’t as good as it is today. I think you can fill in the rest ;-)
