It’s harsh to criticise people for not working for free…
It’s harsh to criticise people for not working for free…
Right but a small company or even a group of people aren’t going to put resources into something that a few % of people use. Look at Linux, despite it being the most used operating system in the world, retail sticks to windows and Mac, so it just doesn’t get the same level of support.
I completely agree in the sense people should educate themselves and use products that benefit them and don’t abuse them, but people don’t. And because people don’t, companies won’t.
You said it better than I could
Most people don’t use federated services. I know it’s ironic that an open source project isn’t using open source channels, but sometimes it’s best to stick to services that are easy access and popular.
I’m sure if enough people got in contact about using open source communication they would likely attempt it.
I emailed Microsoft to get my domain removed from their blacklist and it worked within 48 hours. Aslong as my domain has it’s correct security settings I no longer go to spam. Gmail didn’t seem to care as much.
Out of that list I use OVHCloud. Their VPS are built on Epyc (atleast they are in London), which gives very high performance for a low price.
I mean, the question should also be, does league of legends have a big enough cheating issue to justify having an invasive anti-cheat. I played the game for 10 years and not once did I knowingly encounter a cheater.
I’m not arguing with your parenting style or saying you’re doing it wrong etc etc, I agree with it in theory but I’d like to share my younger sisters story.
My mum decided she couldn’t have social media until she was “old enough” to protect her, this however caused her to end up getting a secret phone and create secret social media accounts. This eventually led to her being cyber bullied by students at her school who’s parents were less cautious. But because she was doing all of this secretly as her mum had said no to social media, she didn’t feel like she could get the support she needed. Fortunately she had an older brother who could help her, but I couldn’t go to the school for her as I’m not her guardian.
I personally after this would lean into the world of not necessarily supervised social media usage, but educating and cautioning what it means to post on social media. How it will never go away and when it’s there, it’s there forever.
My sister fully understands this now and is doing alot better, but ultimately the damage is done.
I fully understand the point of view of no social media until 18, I just want you to be aware of potential consequences of being strict on it.
Alright Mr snarky pants calm down, I was adding onto your comment not attacking it
But there’s no need to store them in what I assume to be plain text, this is negligence
In my opinion, the only acceptable way to eat most vegetables is roasted and seasoned. Frozen vegetables are easier to roast as they are part cooked before frozen.
If I go to a restaurant and I receive boiled vegetables I won’t go there again. Sick freaks.
This is just speculation, but I’m pretty sure Microsoft stopped caring about people pirating windows and using licences they shouldn’t have. They would rather you use windows as a pirate than not use windows at all.
Well kinda but not really, he owns around 4% of Reddit which is where the $193m comes from because of the $5b valuation.
Still, fuck spez
Imagine if steam sold movies and TV shows
You made me chuckle. But let’s all agree that learning to use git is a ball ache and isn’t very intuitive. Throw repositories into the mix and lay people just aren’t gonna get it. I think using git should be taught in highschool IT classes though, most people will never use it, but it will massively help those who do need to learn it.
If you dump 8tb of data onto a 10tb SSD and only read from it, it will probably last just as long as a hard drive. SSD’s wear from lots of write operations, reading from them doesn’t really do much other than the cache will be damaged over time.
And they have Spotify DJ, which not everyone likes but I think it’s great, worth the £10 a month to me
Caddy makes it so you don’t have to understand reverse proxies to use them, the config is literally just "reverse_proxy " and then gives it a let’s encrypt SSL certificate. It’s beautiful for self hosting.
Additionally, using jottacloud with 2 VPS’s (one of them being built on epyc like from OVH cloud) can get you a really good download server and streaming server for about £30 a month, which is the same as having netflix and Disney plus, except now you can have anything you want.
I have a contabo 4core 8gb ram VPS that handles downloading content.
A OVH 4core 8gb VPS that handles emby (I keep trying to go back to jellyfin but it’s just slightly slower than emby at transcoding and I need to squeeze as much performance out of my VPS as possible so… Maybe one day jelly)
And I have a really good streaming experience with subtitles that don’t put big black boxes on the screen making 1/8th of the screen non viewable.
