Has Google considered making their advertising engine better? Allow us to skip every ad. Allow us to block all those fucking cryptocurrency scam ads. Forcing me to watch an ad for a company that I’m not interested in guarantees that I will hate that company and never buy their product even if I need it. I will go out of my way to buy something from a company that hasn’t tried to ram their advertisements down my throat. If ads weren’t so fucking terrible I might agree to watch them.

I couldn’t fucking care less. If I want to see their edgelord circle jerk bullshit I’ll create an account on the instance. No one is being silenced. They can spew their bullshit to their hearts content and no one is being prevented from listening who wants to. The people who are pissing and moaning are just whining because they can’t force everyone to listen anymore like they could on Reddit and that isn’t any fun.

Lemmy is federated. No one can stop anyone from listening to what they want to listen to and no one can force you to listen to intentionally annoying edgelords if you don’t want to.

Now quit your fucking and get on with your lives.

I don’t want to live in an echo bunker. I have encountered very few people on Lemmy who I needed to block personally. In fact, there are only four on my blocked list and I have no idea why they’re there. I suspect that I accidentally blocked them while trying to do something else.

Blocking someone on Reddit took them out of the conversation. Blocking someone on Lemmy takes you out of the conversation.

I quite like it. I find the text extremely small. I’ve made it larger but then the cards get very crowded. I’ll eventually get it to somewhere that it works better for me.

This morning the first response in my inbox was from someone I had hilighted as red and tagged as a BAD FAITH ACTOR. It helped me to slow down and carefully craft my response. I like it a lot but the tagging and hilighting functionality costs a couple of bucks per month or $25 per year.

And yet, Wikipedia doesn’t agree with your opinion.

I don’t like the idea of blocking people who have different ideas but who aren’t otherwise doing anything problematic. I’m talking with someone this morning who has the most ridiculous ideas about how the world works. His ideas are just nonsense and he advances them with great confidence. I have him flagged so that as soon as I saw his name come up as red this morning I knew that I needed to slow down and careful about my response. I don’t want to block him because the things he says offer a chance for people who know how the world works to respond, perhaps influencing the perception of a reader who comes along later.

If you want to block people, by all means block them, but you’re taking yourself out of the conversation, not them. That was the problem with the blocking system on Reddit. If you blocked someone you took them out of the conversation. On Lemmy when you block someone you take yourself out of the conversation. Unless you want to operate in an echo bunker where you can only see people whose ideas agree with yours that’s a bad thing.

Your childish taunts have no power here. That’s why you haven’t been able to bait me with them.

You’re the one who can’t let go of your anger. You will never grow as a person as long as you are consumed by it. I am very happy with who I am as a person and with the contribution I make to my community and my country. Can you say the same thing?

I include them because they are taking about “revolution” and the only way you successfully overthrow a federal government is by force which necessitates the use of tanks even if they haven’t considered the fact that the fetal government is going to fight back with tanks and many, if not all of them, will be killed.

I’ve been including the ones who want to murder all the rich people and government officials with the tankies even though they don’t want to use tanks.

We’re not squabbling. I mean, I think that he thinks we are, but I genuinely feel sorry for people who spend all their time raging at others on social media. It’s so self-defeating.

Look, dude.  You’re so busy being angry that you can’t see that I genuinely feel sorry for you.  You, and people like you, are economic incels.  You think you’re the victim and that society owes you so you’re angry and lashing out.  Unfortunately, Lemmy has taken away all of your power to do anything but be annoying.  Your brigades can’t tactically block anyone who disagrees with you, you can’t use downvotes to silence anyone who contradicts you, and the fediverse can just defederate from any instance that you infect once your behaviour becomes extreme enough to warrant it.  You’ve been defanged and that enrages you.  So, you are reduced to childish taunting and insults that only work if the person you’re taunting and insulting cares about your opinion.

So…I genuinely feel sorry for you.  You’re going through life angry at the world and at people you think have more than you and with absolute confidence that the world owes you. I really do hope that you eventually figure this shit out and find a way to be happy instead of spending your time shitting in your hand and flinging it at people on Lemmy.

So angry.

My beliefs aren’t so fragile that I need to protect them from beliefs that don’t agree. We need to engage with the extremists. We need to call them out and let each other know that the person we are talking to is a bad faith actor who isn’t interested in a discussion or understands but to simply spread their extremist message of hate and intolerance. If we block them they continue unchallenged.

I hope you find a way to become less angry. It’s got to be very tiring to spend all your time raging at and insulting strangers on the internet just because they don’t agree with you.
