I don’t go out of my way to get news, so social media/Lemmy. Except for local news, which I do follow more closely. But that’s it.
I have never used amazon, much less paid for a subscription service for the pleasure of using it. I was hoping that the author atleast stopped using amazon alltogether. Ah well. Little victories I guess.
I know they had a word block list but I’m unsure if it’s still around.
I just realized FF didn’t have a built in translator a week ago. Excited to see it come!
I got by for a long time using a YouTube playlist and Vanced. Might want to look into YouTube Revanced, it’s a patch for the YT app that deletes ads and adds some extra features.
Sounds like it sorts out the right kind of people? I’m not aware of anyone actually asking you to write an essay, no one would do that. 2 short answer questions does not an essay make.

It’s so refreshing having a statement written by two people, instead of a board of lawyers.
Makes sense, posts can be (and are) automated via repost bots. Commente and genuine interaction is impossible to fake.
Matrix is open source and has the same ethos as other projects like Lemmy.
Discord is closed source and is similar to Reddit in principles.
They’ll appoint new mods. New mods that don’t have any experience or any professionalism. New mods that may not even be the age of majority yet. It’s a dumpster fire waiting to happen.

Right now use Windows 10 on my PC. Not interested in 11 at all. I’ve been thinking about buying an old chromebook and tossing Linux (probably Mint) on it. A friend made one of those and I thought it was really neat. Just gotta find the time, I suppose.

Yes, nothing prevents them from hitting the button. But the downvote wouldn’t be federated. Beehaw would never know if everyone else was downvoting them.
