Did you get a browser error when trying this? It might be because you left the www in the URL. I had to remove that and replace it with old, and it works. The rest of the link structure is the same on both old and new reddit. I even tried it from a VPN just to be sure it wasn’t seeing my logged in cookies, and in a private browsing window where RES isn’t allowed to run. Worked fine.

Private Internet Access works for me. Just tested logged out in an incognito mode tab.

Interesting. I’ll have to test it when I get home. I’m always signed in and I use RES so could be some other factors causing it to not be a problem for me.

That is basically what they did. There are a decent amount of third party apps around that work. I personally use Narwhal.

The further we get from the whole third party app debacle, the more I think this was just a way to kill the most popular apps. The ones that people said made reddit worth using. The ones that got shouted out in Apple keynotes.

It’s why I cancelled last year. I got it for free through my FIOS Internet connection for a few years, but after that went away I paid for a year. But the price increase was just not worth the like 2 shows and maybe one movie that I watched on it a year.

I think the answer to both are the people who created the art, text, etc that these generative AI tools are going to make mostly obsolete.

Imagine both the annoyance and job security having to manage MS-DOS and 3.1 systems for a railroad would entail.

And that fee should scale based on who is using it for commercial purposes. Microsoft and Google should be paying far, far out the ass for their data.

I’d be fine with this argument if these generative tools were only being used by non-profits. But they aren’t.

So I think there has to be some compromise here. Some type of licensing fee should be paid by these generative AI tools.

Aren’t the Russian hypersonic missiles essentially just regular ballistic missiles? I remember reading something saying that calling them hypersonic was a stretch, and they have been intercepted by standard missile defense systems which actual hypersonic missiles wouldn’t be.

That’s not a phone, that’s a laptop. The amount of people willing to pay for that is going to be miniscule.

In my state, stores already scan the ID when buying booze. It isn’t all the time, but it’s fairly requent.

I used to hate self checkout. I was a cashier at a grocery store back in 2004-2005 and I found self check out slow and finnicky.

I’ve gotten used to them now and it seems like newer ones have resolved most of the speed and weight sensing issue. Now I prefer them with small trips.

My biggest problems now are that I still need a person for booze and coupons. If I could just scan my damn ID when I’m buying beer, and then scan and insert my own coupons, I’d be set.

It’s fairly new in my area, but it’s great. That and contactless payments (Google and Apple Pay) are nice.

The biopic on this whole thing is going to be hilarious. The rumors are that the board didn’t like how fast the CEO is moving with AI and they’re afraid of consequences of possible AGI (which I don’t think these new LLMs are even close to) but that doesn’t feel like what modern boards of directors are so I don’t trust it.

It’s just baffling how this golden goose was half way strangled in the nest.
