I’m not an anti-systemd extremist. I use Void because it is a simple distro that doesn’t break as often as Arch does, while also being very up-to-date.

I do have some things I dislike about systemd though which is why I will continue avoiding it in the future.

• It doesn’t follow the Unix Philosophy. This is a big problem for me, I want to be able to switch out different parts of my system as I please. Systemd is a collection of projects that are all so deeply integrated that you can’t use them without also running the Systemd init system. And now Desktop Environments are starting to depend on Logind for example and there’s no alternative for non-systemd users. (Except Elogind but that’s just Logind ripped out of SystemD)
• It’s bloated and has many features I don’t use. I just need an init system to start all my services at boot and restart them if they fail. Nothing more

Also using a Distro without Systemd is not really that hard

Depends on if you want to work with existing code. LLMs tend to be good at generating small code snippets but not good at understanding / finding errors in existing code

Void Linux is S tier

I’m hoping for COSMIC to come out. It looks so promising and the fact that they implemented the panels using wlr-layer-shell is so great. I think more desktop environments should do this for interoperability

This is a problem. Computers got faster over time and one would assume apps would also open faster. But no, developers that don’t care about their application’s performance (or companies, most of the time it’s not the developer’s fault) cause us to wait longer. Microsoft recently tweeted that they managed to get Microsoft Teams startup time down to 9 seconds from 18. I mean what the fuck.

I know. I also use VSCode. However I just hate how much ram it uses. I had a Laptop with 4Gb of ram and I could not open VsCode on that thing when I had literally anything else open because the system would freeze.

Just because VsCode uses Electron doesn’t mean that Electron is not bad

There’s no such thing as a efficient electron app. First electron apps have 80MB of overhead since electron needs to bundle a whole ass browser. Also in runtime this requires 120MB of ram.

If you really want to use webviews to make an app use Tauri.

Yes but it’s not primarily a video editing app. Also Blender is kinda hard to learn and doing so just for video editing would be overkill

It is not free software but it is open source. Stop gatekeeping the term. I can look at the code and modify it to my hearts content. I can also watch as the project is being developed. That means it’s open source. It would be free software if you where also allowed to redistribute it but I can fully see why they do not want that

Not entirely true. The mullvad browser adds a lot of anti-tracking stuff, which was originally implemented in the TOR Browser. So you’re definitely safer using the mullvad browser instead of plain Firefox

We consume pseudo-food, watch pseudo movies and participate in pseudo sports, heck even pseudo politics. Why pseudo? Because everything is made as cheap as possible and to distract us from the suffering that capitalism brings us so that we won’t rise up.

Examples:

• Our vegetables are genetically modified so that they grow bigger but they can’t reproduce anymore and the seeds are copyrighted.
• The movies that are watching are catered to the mainstream and don’t even really get a message across. Marvel movies try to tell us that rich people with power will save the world
• Football games are there to distract people “give them bread and games and they will never revolt”
• The people at power, through massive propaganda, seperate our people into left and right. These two parties will then fight eachother instead of realizing who is really opressing us
