That is an outrageously long time to wait for a laptop without updates. From the prices I just looked up, it also is outrageously expensive.

There’s a few things a bunch of other commenters are getting wrong, at least from my understanding.

The AC compressor is run by a belt from the engine. Unlike a home AC, a vehicles AC is either on or off. There is no cycling. The temp control is just changing how much outside air comes in, or how much heat is drawn from the engine.

The fan speed is not going to effect anything at all. The alternator spins to generate electricity to recharge the battery, but the amount of energy required to spin it doesn’t change based on how much electricity is being drawn.

Tamping your AC down in any way, whether by lowering fan speed, or increasing the temperature is less efficient. Use it at it’s coldest temp and highest fan speed if you’re going to use it at all.

Edit: I almost forgot to add that AC efficiency is going to be more closely tied to your driving speed and outside air temperature. Driving faster makes your AC more efficient (not necessarily your whole car). More air passing over the evaporators means more heat released from your AC to the outside, which makes colder air in your car. The colder the air outdoors, the more heat the AC can release to the outdoors, which means colder air in your car.

As for EVs, I have entirely no clue, but I would assume it’s a similar situation.

Expandable storage is #1, great screen would just barely edge out excessive bloatware for #2.

I guess I’m just bitching at this point because I know the sony is the only one that will fit what I want. Motorola is so close to filling the space that LG left behind, it’s unfortunate they haven’t realized they are just two features short of being unique at their price point. They don’t have the ecosystem, aren’t trying to create one, so why not pack in the features everyone else ignores?

I just really wish the EU could somehow create an argument to require memory card slots. I’ve been trying my best to come up with one myself, just to put it out there in the world.

I could stick with samsung if it wasn’t for their bloatware and their terrible push notifications. And their UI. And their terrible ecosystem that pushes more data collection. And their terrible integration with google products. And their terrible boot system that pushes updates in the middle of the night, but doesn’t fully restart the phone so your texts, calls, and alarms don’t come through.

Seriously appreciate the suggestions because I have to catch up on phone specs since I never care about phones until I need to upgrade.

I had a couple hours to pick my current phone and my list of complaints and serious issues with it is outrageously long. I was seriously upset when LG left the phone market, and can’t believe how overlooked and downtrodden their phones were.

For me personally, I’m all about minimal bloatware, the best screen quality, at least decent chip performance, and expandable storage.

Bloat for obvious reasons.

Screen quality due to me usually only watching TV when with my spouse and/or sailing. Otherwise I’m using my phone.

My s20 FE’s chip is ok, but it was barely a jump from my v30, and now it’s feeling slow when I use a lot of CPU intensive apps. I’ve noticed detrimental file degradation when moving large files around my phone unless I clear all app usage and even then it can still create artifacts, and take a long time.

SD slot because the service in my area is garbage and I could never count on cloud storage that will also inevitably grow as I age. Plus sailing.

The moto being an LCD is pretty much a deal breaker for me. The 5V isn’t available here. The 1V is the only thing that checks every box, but the price is exorbant, the lack of wifi calling, bad auto photo mode, questionable durability, poor software support, lack of in depth reviews, and the general mystery surrounding the Sony software and UI makes me extremely hesitant for what I intend to be at least a 5 year phone.

I’m probably going to bite the bullet and get the Sony, but I’m still just so frustrated with the phone market. I keep getting the same responses from people like: “I just pay $5 a month for 500G”.

I’m desperately trying to find a new phone that isn’t a Samsung. I switched by force from LG to Samsung and even though the Samsung was 3 years newer, it was a downgrade.

It pushes so many notifications I have given up. I’m going to have to spend $1400 on a Sony just to retain my SD card slot and get rid of the bloatware.

Since starting my hunt, my garbage s20 is pushing so many s24 ads. Guess how many phones have an SD card slot and a FHD+ screen?

Nine. 4 of them are made by Sony.

Edit: I forgot to mention that my samsung phone also gave me a notification Ad for the S24. I didn’t think to screenshot it because my notifications are so aggressive that I have become brain dead to this bullshit. I can clear a wall of 15 and within 3 minutes have another wall of 10.

Mine is divided by street frontage due to natural environmental features, but I know how to round numbers, so I have 0.7 acres, and that means I can round to 3/4 acres.

Last year I was sick for 7 weeks with covid, RSV, the flu, and then covid again. I had to go to work while still sick with covid because I was out of sick time, even though their own policies should have prevented me from returning. I told all my coworkers to stay away from me and avoided them like I had the plague, because I essentially did. Had I actually not cared about other people’s health, I could have lied and destroyed the entire department for months with recurring spreading illness.

I had to have a meeting where I was being threatened with a PIP for attendance, while I was still sick and wearing a mask, for my job at a vaccine laboratory.

Or bleach and alcohol.

Better yet, let’s just say don’t mix bleach with anything but water.

A previous employer gave shares to anyone that stayed 5 years after their IPO. I bought some more through their employee discounted buying program. The share price is less than half what they opened with.

I loathe the company and the people who run it because they are psychopaths that will not take no for an answer. That’s also why I never plan on selling those shares. They will be successful, and in 30 years when they are ruthless industry leading monopolistic psychopaths, and those shares have split a few times, I’m going to have a nice little nest egg.

Unfortunately a corporation is a person. Worse yet is when they are a very rich person with actual product and capital.

I noticed immediately that Lemmy was far less vitriolic than reddit was, but that seems to be changing quickly.

Some of my comments are entirely satire. Some are formal, but a lot of them are my not-so-hard takes or opinions on general bullshit. One of the first comments I made on lemmy a few months ago was still how I feel about social media. Once the “/s” is necessary to distinguish jokes from reality in a community, hate has already won.

While a lot of my comments are generally well received, I’ve been finding that my purely satirical comments have been being disliked at increasingly larger rates, seemingly because users aren’t sure if I’m joking or not. Maybe it’s the audience changing or maybe my satire isn’t landing, but that leads me to something worse.

What I find is a more dismal indicator is that my inoculous opinions aren’t being refuted, I’m just being called stupid for having them. I don’t think I’ve outright insulted someone, or called someone stupid since I was an 11 year old on AIM, but that is what seems to be becoming the norm on lemmy.

Now I’m not saying i can’t take the bullshit. Ill embrace it when given, but if this place was supposed to replace reddit, or be a more free and accepting group or communities, it’s failing. Newcomers aren’t going to stay here long if we can’t get along, and communities aren’t going to thrive with toxic echo chamber tendencies.

Anyway, if anyone wants to have tongue in cheek banter, too bad. I’ll be watching Latex Angel and hotkinkyjo videos. HKJ can fit entire human leg in her torso.

I had a specific problem today that googling didn’t help (it was a google account problem, go figure). I added reddit to the search terms and clicked into reddit for the first time in months. All I can say is that their UI is purposely horrible. Like, so fucking bad.

I would rather join tiktok than use reddit at this point. That should sound like sarcasm, or hyperbole, but it isn’t. Lemmy is feeling like the last social media network I’ll join, and as soon as lemmy gets to the toxicity levels of reddit, which no offense but I feel will be soon, I’m probably going to be the weird person that just uses their phone to call their family, utility companies, and watch hardcore anal fisting, footing, and prolapsing videos.

It took billions of years to make pacman and 14 years to make pacman 2. They should be able able to make GTA 6 in a week. GTA 7 should come out before Christmas.
