Call me stubborn if you must but as long as beehaw is playing the maverick part and not willing to be a full and compliant part of the fediverse I just won’t raise an eyebrow. Well, not right now at least.
It’s not that I’m super-informed and henceforth condemning beehaw or whatever, I just feel like transitioning from bigbroreddit to the fediverse is enough change without betting on the outsider that’s whistling their own tune already.
If someone can educate me bringing some food for thought about beehaw I am willing to listen and eventually learn.
Like many before me said, explore other interests. Then when you get back to gaming try moving out of your comfort zone. If roaming on open worlds has been your thing for years try switching to a neighboring genre such as battle royale or coop monster bashing for instance, or even try switching to a totally different genre like puzzles or fps. Challenge yourself to new habits and gameplays, and do not hesitate moving on to another genre if it’s just not your thing.
58 with a similar background (except that I’m a man) and I have no intention to stop.
I’m essentially a PC gamer but had a few game consoles too (until Dreamcast), which I ditched as soon as PCs were able to provide a decent platform for modern gaming. I’m a modder and occasionally a tweaker so I prefer having total control over my gaming environment than being restricted by a closed system console.
I love many game genres, my favorites being immersive open worlds and strategic action and stealth games (à la Ghost Recon Wildlands or Mass Effect) but I don’t limit myself to those. Each genre brings its own amusement and interest, either honing your reflexes or challenging your cooperation skills or your memory.
And above all, gaming is fun!
There is no age cut off for enjoying challenging both your mind and reflexes, nor to have fun. And imho enjoying gaming at our ages is one of the many symptoms of still being a young soul.
Devs will have some hard weeks (probably months) facing the new challenges that come with the exodus. Not even mentioning all the work needed to counteract eventual (probable) malevolent subterfuges such as these bot swarms.
I’ll make sure to buy them some coffee. Jugs of.
