Well how do you combat that if you are in a household or shared network with others who aren’t privacy conscious?

I had considered that, but that would mean they are collating and amalgamating data coming from a single IP, which is almost as bad as listening to my microphone. Both are data gathering without my permission.
I’m not so sure. I’m interested in this thread because I had a recent issue like this. I barely use Instagram, hadn’t booted the app for a month or something, only have it to support my SO’s art account. Never comment/DM, just likes. Had a lengthy in person conversation about tattoos and the idea of getting them at current location. I didnt do any searches on my phone or any other device for that matter. Don’t have any tattoos, or ever look at that content on insta (only follow art and wildlife photography accounts). Booted up Instagram that day and was getting purely adverts for local tattoos studios on my feed. Checked my permissions, all disabled. The only explanation I have is that it’s somehow still listening. That can’t possibly be a coincidence.
Yeah, I’ve personally had them tagged as “leftist trump bot” since interacting with that sub once and getting banned immediately. I’ve since seen them post sane stuff elsewhere on the fediverse and was surprised as within that sub they seem completely unhinged.
Oh yeah, that community is horrible. I saw a ton of their posts popping up on my feed and made a comment on there before blocking it (some question about the heavy advocacy for voter apathy) and was immediately banned.
Freedom of speech. Except the speech we don’t like.
I have encountered this “American social issues transplanted” hand waving a lot in Europe. For example, I know a lot of Swedes who say this about a bunch of casually racist stuff (proclaiming Sweden to be very anti-racist). Meanwhile up north you see a lot of Classic American cars which are often casually emblazoned with Confederate flags and even displayed in proximity to Nazi memorabilia. Down south you have a rising right-wing party support fuelled by fear of immigrants from Africa/Middle East (eg. The non-white ones).
I understand you’re trying to educate yourself and that’s great, don’t take this as dunking on you more, as I feel like you’re in the smart minority by trying to learn and reason. It just really bugs me when I hear people say it’s a US problem. A lot of Europe is holding a lot of racist views (and in a lot of cases, horrific colonial history) and then turn around to say things like “why are my football players kneeling, BLM is an American issue”.
Oh I totally get that. But where there’s mayo, there’s no need for butter. And if you slightly toast the bread first it will mostly hold off the sogginess. And it’s only really a problem with basic sliced bread, some nice crusty or dense grainy bread will often hold up anyway.
To me, it’s the equivalent of something like deep frying bacon. Probably still delicious but not really necessary.
I would like to get behind To’s, but it’s a bit too similar to toes. I like the idea of toes in my sandwiches less than butter.
I already tagged you as “butter sandwich maniac” from this thread, but I’m happy you mentioned cheese and onion, so I have to update that.
I’m excited to see this. I also got the feeling it was a loaded question because there a a ton of classics not represented: bacon butties, chip butties, cheese and onion, ham and mustard, sausage, baked bean toasties, cucumber, jam, peanut butter. I guess they could be lower ranking but I doubt that about the first few at least.
My parents put butter on sandwiches that really don’t need it and it drives me mad. Looks like I’m in the minority.
Out of all of the sandwiches on that list, they all already have some moisture without the need for butter:
85% of people literally can’t enjoy a sandwich without butter? A nation of psychopaths.
Only the US is allowed to ruin elections.
This feels borderline criminal. Yeah it’s 11 years old, but if someone told you that an early access game stays in early access a decade, that means you need to buy it again on release, would you?
If you were in the other thread about these bombings yesterday, you’d see that viewpoint is basically what the US teaches in school. It’s disturbing to see that so many people actually believe this was for the good of humanity.
How on earth is “Leaked private messages” a reason for banning. Absolutely an abuse of power and Streisand Effect is doing it’s thing.
