I couldn’t have done it if I stayed in the states. No judgment on anyone who lives in a structurally car dependent area and doesn’t have a good alternative
I may be an outlier, but it feels great to be car free in a walkable city.
People who are having a great time at work are the reason I like WFH
It’s over. It was honestly over long ago, it’s just playing out in slow motion.
It will probably continue to play out for another thirty years at least. Increasingly horrible, so at any point “eight years ago” feels like back when things were sane, except we lost our minds decades ago already.
Sorry we’re the nation equivalent of DJ Khaled; we think we’re “suffering from success” but in truth we actually are and we don’t know it.
Now why would they be doing that?
I have never cared for human nature. It’s tedious at best and often ghastly. We should all concern ourselves much more with human nurture.
To put it plainly, we should not be letting corporations do research on how to manipulate our most base instincts on social media. That would have been a moderate solution a century ago. Now we would need a more radical approach, such as outlawing most forms of advertising content and social media manipulation. And even raising the topic probably makes me sound insane.
If a platform puts arrow buttons on everything people say, and tell you that up means you get “points”, it’s a social metric. At this point if you’re trying to create a consensus metric, you’ll have to think of something else. It’s too ingrained in us.
Fuck the junta
Says @naturalgasbad@lemmy.ca, famously Lemmy’s most politically neutral user 🤣
So it’s Steam > Interface > startup location to open in library, and then uncheck “notify me about additions, changes, new releases,” etc. to kill the popup.
… You can disable that advert window?
I think we’re failing at life bro
Go on long walks with a litter bag cleaning parks etc while listening to books and music. Get really in shape. Cook every meal for my family. Write fiction. Get involved in helping local political movements. Attend more protests.
That’s all we need, a way for morons to turn the web into even more of a Potemkin village of meaningless blather
The LLM edit shows a lack of care and detail. Bloodless, bland, not compelling. I would prefer to say things the human way, and I prefer to be spoken to the same way. Someone sent me an LLM email once and it made me feel just lonely and bored.
Do you think a peace deal that cedes Crimea and parts of Donbas to Russia, while also keeping Ukraine out of any defense pacts, to be a lasting prospect? It is hard to imagine that the story would end there.
Yes.
But this isn’t going to be a solution Russia can abide willingly, which is how we end up not being “anti-war” so much as hoping one side wins. Fine distinction.
Being anti-war is easy, it’s the particulars on which people will meaningfully differ. How do you build a lasting peace in either of these places?
I’ve been quite coffee dependent ever since about age 16. Sometimes I like to take a week off, facilitated by a massive two litre teapot. In summer, iced tea is my crutch of choice.
