The article touches briefly on it, essentially even though a minority wants these terrible policies, that minority are the GOP base and are generally single issue voters and religious. That minority has an outsized say due to gerrymandering. And there is also a feedback loop in this country where the GOP gerrymanders, they cut education and other social services, blame the “enemy” for the downturn in QOL for their constituents, and repeat. It solidifies the us vs them mentality that has these people voting against their own interests.
Obviously super simplified outlook on it since it is a very complex issue. Other people in the thread have explained better.
The reason they are able to do this comes down to gerrymandering.

I’ll second this. Learned this a long time ago. Anything you think you need on w3c schools can be found elsewhere.
Pretty cool. I loved the transparent Gameboys as a kid. Might look into doing this as well
Something’s changed, but if we close our eyes and stick our fingers in our ears we can continue business as usual
Apparently, you have to live it
No truer words.
This is pessimistic but it seems to me that Florida is absolutely and incredibly fucked. It’s not even an uphill battle to protect the keys and Everglades, it seems unwinnable without absolutely massive and rapid global shifts, or am I just a doomer?
This will make the 3 people who actually used Cortana mildly disgruntled.
You’re the one speculating. You can analyze your network traffic to ensure it disabled, and as people have done and verified that it is disabled. Those are standard Google Ad trackers. Any app with ads has them, like Sync for Reddit did and Sync for Lemmy does.
You don’t need a car in Brooklyn, but I am not wrong with what I said.
As you leave Manhattan the farther away you get the more you will see cars and the less you will see public transportation options. This is an inarguable fact. From the US Census, Staten Island has the highest amount of car ownership, only 16% of households in Staten Island did not have a car in 2021. 37% of Queens households did not have cars, 55% of Brooklyn did not have cars, 59% of the Bronx did not have cars. Maybe I should have said Staten Island and Queens instead of Brooklyn, but almost half the households have cars in Brooklyn.
In Manhattan, 76% of households do not have cars.
Many parts of Queens and Brooklyn are considered “underserved” by public transportation by the city and state governments and it is a very known equity issue in the city. Improvements have been made over the recent years, hopefully we will see the new Interborough Express completed.
Ha, it is definitely a local slang. People in outer boroughs will say “I’m going into the city for the day” if they are going into Manhattan, even though all the boroughs are “New York City” and mostly high density
I only heard of this recently… should I switch off Nova? What do I even switch to?
I’ve never used anything but Nova for years and years now.
Actually I live in NYC and often public transportation, especially bikes, are faster to get around Manhattan than car services. Outer boroughs need more infrastructure though. Places like Queens and Brooklyn as you get away from the city become harder to navigate without a car or car service and taxis can be rarer
I both use subscriptions and watch what the algo shows me. According to a lot of big YouTubers I watch, their viewership mostly comes from people who find them organically and only a smaller amount of their views come from subscribers but sponsors like to see high subscriber counts as well as high view counts.
Anyone saying that is definitely wrong, it is neither more secure or less secure just on the basis that it is closed or open source. There are processes that all types of software must take to ensure there are limited vulnerabilities. Security audits, pen testing, code scanning, etc.
Damn you’re missing out, one of the best games
If you’re not carrying cooked spaghetti in your pocket I don’t trust you.
