Feels I was right to be skeptical. Email is sensitive information and not something you can quickly jump to new shiny thing in town. Proton mail is king for me, but at least Tuta been around a while.

The thing is, most western governments are pushing towards facial recognition and monitoring without the need for a warrant. Most countries are already stacked up to the eyeballs with CCTV (UK for example, and hooking that in with facial recognition is dangerous). First they start off with it being for terrorists, then paedophiles, then other criminals, but ultimately, it’s monitoring everyone to track down a few. When you have that infra in place, and you don’t have sufficient oversight, you can soon tweak that towards activist groups, then opposition groups etc.

You have to challenge it before the infrastructure goes in, because after it’s in, it’s already too late.

I don’t see why not. There is a difference between an off chance of someone noticing you vs. camera’s with high accuracy recognising your face and being able to track your locations, what places you visited and who with for every minute of every day.

There is most definitely a circus, but absolutely no fun to be found here.

Oh, and an interesting follow on, if someone runs a technology consultancy, can they post about their business successes and issues? They’re in the tech business after all. Or is this simply limited to the who’s who of bad actors? The big, 3 4, 10, 15? What is the cut off?

You mean like non-reactionary content? Stuff that teaches us, and we learn, and we feel hope? Quality rather than hyperbole.

It’s not just an inconvenience. I unfollowed the sub because the quality of the content was poor. I want to learn about technology, not social media companies and every minutiae about their employees bowel movements. I’m getting more value from Linux than from here, despite the fact some of it is more low level than I’d like.

Has anyone proven a technology for that long and that consistently that it is safe. I’ve seen quite the contrary and sensible legislators expect a human there in case of issue.I’d expect that for years before a reasonable level ofconfidentce is reached.

Even if you have excellent self-drive, there is no logical reason not to have a backup steering wheel just to intervene in case. Tbh, I had no idea they were even in the self-drive market which may be their true problem. No one really knows.

From a young age, black kids are told their natural hair is unkempt, and often by white teachers. The view of what is neat hair, and isn’t neat hair is very subjective. This constant unconscious, and sometimes conscious bias is not helpful. It’s often used as disguised form of discrimination.

I’m not saying this is the case with the original poster and think it was a genuine mistake, but it’s something we probably need to move away from.
