This meme gets funnier and funnier every time I read it!
Get out of here with your reasoning. It’s more fun to feign outrage because it gives me an opportunity to feel smart. If you start to invalidate my superiority by pointing out how arbitrary and dramatic my response is then I’m going to downvote you.
This doesn’t actually answer the question.
Well, if your argument is: “any company that becomes a monopoly will abuse monopoly power”, then sure I agree with you. You got me there!
My argument is: “given a reliable financial alternative to advertising, a company will be able to resist enshitification for a long time, as long as there is no absolute tyrannical monopoly.”
I assumed the last part was implied and I’m sorry for the confusion!
You have to pay for kagi so they are not incentivized to serve ads. They are incentivized to give you a good set of search results so you keep paying.
This is standard. You always get rid of the upper management. You give them a lot of money and a round of applause and then you put your own people in. Everyone at the top will be Microsoft.
“wow you have the entire knowledge of the world in your pocket what do you use it for?”
“Tiktok.”
They had to sell the console distribution fights to Ubisoft so at least you can look forward to that!
Can you follow rss feeds on the fediverse?
Please tell my wife this.
Just pick the 15th most common name of the previous year. Then your kid will be fine.
In order to grow a chat app you need a consistent and stable interface over a long period of time. It can’t have too much bullshit in it either.
In order to grow your career at Google you need to build ridiculous shit and then leave once you get your promo. Entire departments get reorged so someone can hit their people manager quota.
Product groups, business units, “orgs”, VPs, SVPs, it’s all just a game and “everyone’s playing except you.” This is why Google kills shit. Because Google rewards behavior that results in killing shit.
Telemetry, in the context of software development and UX design, is either a decision by the misinformed or just an excuse to save costs by axing the Windows QA department.
That’s very silly. That’s actually such a ridiculous opinion I’m pretty sure you’ve left out some assumption that would make it make sense.
Except this isn’t 1982 and that computer is running Windows 11, not Multix. The CPU probably has at least 8 cores and the NIC can do at least a gigabit. A network retry is not going to matter.
I agree, it should be opt in. Where I disagree is with how strongly people react against it.
If you buy a car and it only comes with Bluetooth do you have a meltdown? Do you kick, scream, and cry that Big Car is going to steal your data? No that’s fucking ridiculous. But grown ass man children on Lemmy act that way when Microsoft wants to know how many gigs of ram they have.
Microsoft has more to lose than almost any other tech company. They also have more process, legal enforcement, and bureaucracy than most other tech companies.
There’s no fear of a lone engineer moving fast and breaking things at Microsoft. If someone at Microsoft had an idea for how they’d use your data they’d have to pass it through 5 chains of command, 2 tech orgs, and Legal just to begin the process.
If you have ever said “Master Slave” architecture you are a racist and every single Black person in earshot had a panic attack. At least, that’s what we’re led to believe.
And what a sweet deal it is for the fall guy.
“Hey we need to roll out an unpopular policy change. If you agree to take the PR hit we’ll give you $30 million”
Best gig in a lifetime.
Do you like all the trek? I thought Lower Decks and Discovery both started great but kind of fell off. I heard Picard was good.
