I’m cautious because I have 4 pro controllers and 2 surviving joycons, it was pretty annoying when the first one couldn’t be played at all. I have no intention of buying more defective joycons.
Does this support pro controllers or are they still forcing joycons?
I use rsync with a systemd timer. When I first installed the backup drive it took a while to build the file system, but now every Monday it runs, finds the difference between source and target drive, and pulls just the changes down for backup. It’s pretty quick, doesn’t do any compression or anything like that.

I’ll just be honest, from my perspective on lemmy everything outside of porn, linux and shitposts is lacking. Interaction outside the top of hot is a wasteland of non-existence, questions go undiscovered, comments are never read. We could all be more generous with upvotes to improve visibility.
For me sfw art communities, sports, and life protips would all be nice to see grow. I miss the old photoshopbattles too, but I think that’s just fallen out of style in general.

Can someone explain what is the big deal of creating a Playstation account? I know they’ve added the requirement retroactively, and I know everyone wants steam to be it’s own thing, but this is not really a unique situation… I have a lot of games across many publishers that have their own useless accounts tied to it. What makes this different?

The currency situation makes sense and I apologize-- I realize now I had a very western-centric perspective while writing my thoughts. I can absolutely understand hosting on your own hardware, as the opportunity cost in that situation is hugely different. I think the next best option is a good server OS and the ghost docker container but you are right it is not as straight forward or easy. Best of luck friend, trust documentation not youtubers :)
To each their own, that can be a benefit but youll still need to buy hardware, maintain the server software and maybe rent rack space (if you need bandwidth).
My tiny slice of the web hosts a private image gallery for my family to upload and share photos. Going into it I wasn’t really interested in administering yet another server. Instead I threw $6 at a VPS and had a publicly accessible, user friendly site with backups up and running in about 15 minutes… and I haven’t had to think about it again since. And Google/Meta isn’t training their AI on my niece’s birthday pictures. That monthly sub is worth it for reclaiming my time.
At least since iPhone 6ish? I think Dark Sky was one of the first apps to use it effectively. They’d aggregate the atmospheric data across it’s users to make hyper local weather predictions (i.e. “rain in 10 minutes”)
