What is more mildly infuriating than reading a post complaining about someone else complaining? Adding another level!

Edit: Thanks for replying to my little joke everyone. It has been fun reading the responses. Though it seems like we have a few people that still only read and respond to the title.

Someone should definitely come up with a good rage bait title with happy rainbow stuff in the body.

It isn’t even like this is reddit where you have to deal with whatever reddit gives you. Anyone can spin up their own instance and federate from whoever they want or defederate from whoever they want or keep whatever posts they want or delete whatever posts they want.

The thing is, imo it’s about control of others. You can own and operate your instance however you want, but what people really want is to dictate what others get to see and do.

As a digg refugee, it was the same thing on reddits early days… I think it’s just part of the process.

Keep perspective in mind: it might be the 247st post complaining about reddit that YOU read, as you’ve been here longer than the newbies. But for the newbie that just now arrived here it’s literally one of the first things they will post, they have NOT read the other posts yet and might not even know yet how to navigate the site properly to even find said posts. Just let them vent a bit, ok? It will get better on its own.

Imagine if it was pouring outside and you want to meet with friends, you’re a bit late and soaked and p*ssed about the whole situation, but you finally make it and the first thing you say is; “Maaan, what a f[$%&] weather out there!” and then someone gets angry at you; “Yes we know FFS, the last eight people that arrived said the same!” …would you feel welcome then?

    3 days from now:

Can we stop making posts to complain about posts complaining about posts complaining about posts…

I don’t know, maybe a post complaining about people complaining about people complaining? Seriously though I didn’t notice such posts. I’ve only seen level 1 of this rabbit hole so far with people complaining about Reddit users ruining their little club and that seemed to peter out mostly over the past 2 weeks.

Complaining about reddit is part of the process. Let them do the same thing you did when you first migrated over.

It appeals to a broad group of new users, and Lemmy needs posts. I think it’s ok for a few days or even weeks. It’s topical - people are going to talk about something important to them. To tell them to shut up, and/or to shove it makes them feel unwelcome, which is counter to the growth Lemmy needs.

Sometimes it’s ok to be annoyed by something, but to recognize it’s worth to others.

Can we please stop making posts to complain about slightly less new users complaining about new users complaining about Reddit??

But what about the new users who complain about the slightly less new users, who might simply be slightly older ex-Reddit users who wish to complain?

What about people who complain only about subreddits like r/donut - should they not, instead, complain about the hole thing?

Isn’t the donut the hole thing?

As long as everyone has something to complain about, I think we’re in a pretty good spot.

You… Do realize that the only way to affect change is to first point out a problem right?

If the instance is flooded with people complaining about reddit, and that’s annoying, then point it out…

Lots of people are unhappy about a lot of things right now, so lots of people are going to complain about those things.

I mean… What do you expect? Lemmy to be an exclusive club?

A bunch of people got betrayed by a platform they’ve been a part of for sometimes 12-15 years.

Would you rather the generally higher quality users of reddit come to Lemmy, or start their own thing and split/fragment information and communities even more?

Anyways, redditors are going to miss their communities and platforms. This is to be expected, it’s asinine to think that wouldn’t be the case.
