Voters were also far more likely to view Trump … as someone who would “stand up and fight for people like you"

I’m just astounded by poll results like this. I mean, Trump already had four years and what exactly did he do for you? Oh that’s right, absolutely nothing because he was too busy making changes that benefited his personal businesses or stripping federal regulations for personal rights and things like our national parks. I just don’t understand why these people believe Trump is going to help them now when he only made everything worse in his first term?

I suspect people see that he’s willing to fight and don’t really care what he’s fighting for, the mere fact that he fights (and fights dirty!) is what makes him different. Normal politicians don’t seem to fight for anything and just give up whenever things become difficult or illegal 😉

I feel like this isn’t the case, since some senators like Bernie Sanders are also very vocal about fighting for the rights of the common people and yet these same people are against him. Of course the difference is that Sanders doesn’t make a circus-act out of his fights so he doesn’t get shown on the nightly news.

That’s because “stand up and fight for people like you” doesn’t mean working class or blue collar or any geographic or socioeconomic class. It means bigots. Trump is willing to be a bigot out loud. He’s willing to fight for legislation that oppresses people that bigots don’t like.

If Trump gets reelected it’ll be time to start adding riders to all his bills. A new bill to allow discrimination against some group? Fine, add a rider that White people cannot participate. A major tax break for billionaires? Cool, but it can’t apply to white people. A reform to create millions of new jobs? Sure but the positions can only be filled by POC. Stop his bigotry at every turn by simply preventing white people from enjoying the benefits and see how far he gets. Sure these actions will probably be called out as racism, but then you can ask why he is only trying to pass laws that benefit people of a single color.

Assholes are pissed that the culture is shifting more and more in ways that punish assholery (look at the backlash against “Woke”). More and more, pushing back on that in a form of pro asshole culture war, collective action of assholes if you will, seems to the glue binding conservatives together.

Certainly, the only thing that the predatory corporate rich really have in common with racist yeehawdees / Christian nationalists / conspiracy nut jobs is that they don’t like been called out and held accountable for their bullshit.
